Endoscopic Revision of Gastric Bypass

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a very effective weight loss surgery that can achieve significant and sustained weight loss. However, weight regain occurs in 25-50% of patients and can occur as early as 1 year after surgery. Studies have demonstrated that a dilated gastrojejunal anastomosis is an independent risk factor associated with weight regain.

Endoscopic transoral outlet reduction (TORe) with the Overstitch endoscopic suturing device has emerged as the primary and most widely used endoscopic RYGB revision procedure. The TORe procedure has evidence demonstrating safety and efficacy with nearly 10% total weight loss with durability over 5 years.

Endoscopic revision of bariatric surgery typically has a shorter recovery time, less pain and less risk of complications. However, it's important to note that not all patients are candidates for this type of procedure, and Dr. Chapman can consult with you to determine if this is an option for you.
